Call me goofy (cause we all know I am) and sentimental.

While searching for information on how to get my grandfather a specific service I came across on The Ohio Department Of Aging - Golden Buckeye site where you can have a special certificate, signed by the Governer and others, sent to someone 90 or older.

I signed up for one for Papaw. He will be 97.

I think that they will flip when they see his age / birthdate.

I asked they send the certificate to me. That way, in the 4 - 6 weeks it takes to get here, it will be ready in time for his birthday, and I can give it as a present to him.

The best part is its free.

I think that's pretty cool.

I think that is wonderful :) I think that your Papaw will really be touched by that!

You are doing an incredibly sweet thing.

My Papaw
IMO (of course) is the best thing in the world. I have so many wonderful memories of him from my childhood. Memories that I wish I could go back into and live in that moment with him and they never go away.

I've been seriously thinking about writing a book about him and the stories I can remember him telling to me. The ones he keeps repeating now.

I also think that I would like to collect stories from his friends and other family members about him or that they recall him telling.

I think it would someday make a very great book to read.

I think that your Papaw will really be touched by that!

Secretly he will be. Outwardly he will raise a big fuss about how I should not have done that, etc. etc. etc.

Then he will say something to my mom later about how he loves it and she will in turn tell me what he said.

Same thing happened to his Christmas present. He fussed about not wanting one. I got him a 10x13 of 4 of the 5 great-grandchildren. He lectured me on spending my money like that. Little did he know it only cost me $5 + tax. I ignored him.

I put it into the frame, still ignoring him, and put it back on display where it is the center of attention.

Later after I was gone he called my mom and said "Do you know what she did?"

Mom "Yes"

Papaw "I love it."

Me :)
