Don't. Mess. With. My. Kids. Health.

*sees red*

1st - I have strep. I have no clue where I got it. It started on Sunday. I'm staying away from you, but unfortunately I cannot keep away from my family. I'm on meds and have been since Tuesday. I can only hope that none of them come down with it.

2nd - Tuesday evening after her first day at her new daycare/preschool Booda is lying on the couch and saying her foot hurts. She takes off her shoe. She wants me to kiss it. She wants a bandaid. I take off her sock to come face to face with a huge blood blister. Her pinky toe looks twisted inwards and her foot is swollen around this thing.

So, me, just awakened from sleep of the drug induced, looks at my sister who is watching the kids for me so I CAN sleep, and tells her to call our mom and that I'm heading with Booda to the local ER.

Mom beats me there and meets me as I pull into the lot. She takes the Booda into the ER enterance and I proceed to park. We get the Booda into a room rather quickly and get her insurance information to the hosptial pronto. They inform us there are 11 people in front of us and there may be about a three hour wait and if an ambulance or other higher priority emergency that comes in we will fall to the back of the line and wait longer.

This is at 8:30 p.m. Time ticks on. The rooms around us that were full slowly empty out. Nurses and other ER assistants pass our room repeatedly. Most of these people arrived around the same time we did.

Time ticks on.

Repeatedly we go out to check on the status of the ER around us, potty breaks, and the dr. The nurse says she will order x-rays to be taken and acts surprised this was not done immediately.

Time ticks on. At 1:00 a.m. a dr wannabe comes in and brings us some tylenol with codine for the pain.

At about 1:05 a.m. a nurse comes in to guide us to x-ray. X-rays are taken. At about 1:15 to 1:20 a.m. the dr comes in to tell us that it appears that the bone in her middle toe MAY be fractured but only by a hair and since the x-rays are not clear then he was just going to diagnose her with a foot sprain. He glances at her blood blister and says it appears to be odd and then bolts from the room. *poof*

The wannabe comes in again, wraps her foot, gives me a script for tylenol w/codine for her and releases her. It is now 1:25 a.m.

People with less injuries or same injuries have come in after and gone way before us. Why? My daughter has health insurance. I had given them that info up front at 8:30.

Wednesday - Booda sleeps til 12:30 ish. I get up at this time and go to the pharmacy to fill her script. I am told by the tech that her script is written for an adult dosage and the tech called up to the ER to see if it was okay to change it. My daughter is 3 years old.

At the time she gets up, Booda is roasting, she throws up 2x while I'm out. When I get home with the script I give her the meds. Her fever does not subside and now she has a nice red tint to her and is itching from head to toe. She vomits about a total of 8x yesterday. She ate nothing. Drank lots of water and Sprite.

I called bigstan and asked him to come up. I had missed Tues & Wed of work and could not miss another day. If you saw my desk and what they missed doing - OMG - sigh - its a good thing I'm here. Anyway, at the crack of 9:00 a.m. this AM I contacted the family doc and got her in at 12. bigstan takes her.

Then he calls me and asks if I want the good news or the infuriating news. I asked for both.

Well, her foot is not broke. However, she had a SPLINTER in it. That's it. A splinter.

Doc lanced the blood boil, got the splinter out, discontinued the previous script (which I had already done anyway) as she is allergic to codine, prescribed a new antibiotic, and told us to wash her foot in soda water 4x per day for 10 minutes. At least that is my understanding.

She goes back to the doc tomorrow to see how her foot is doing and then he will tell us what we need to do from there.

Can you see me cussing? Can you see my hair flying? Can you see me wanting to rip someone to shreds for incompetence?

There were two seperate drs on her discharge sheet from the ER. I'm not even sure who we saw.

I'm still sick, not as bad as I was, but throat is still sore. And I want to rip someone elses out.

And I will get to pay $75 for being screwed up the butt. Ain't that nice?

sweetie.. I would definately lodge a complaint with the administration at the hospital. The doctors performed actions that put your daughter's life at risk. A serious allergic reaction to the medication they prescribed might have been fatal. Not to mention complete failure to come close to a correct diagnosis. I think you owe it to her and to the community forced to use this hospital that you at least write a letter to the hospital administrators lodging a complaint, and if that doesn't produce a reaction satisfactory to you, report them to the BBB or one of those investigative reporters.

Just because they are doctors doesn't mean you can't tell them they suck at their jobs!

Yep, they suck
I spoke in length yesterday with the head of the administration about what occurred. I informed her of my daughter's condition and the prognosis of her pediatrician.

Of course I praised the pharmacy for catching the overdosage written on the script.

As we had no way of knowing she had an allergy to codine until she took it, that was a tough call.

But they could have at LEAST prescribed her an antibiotic along with the other and the dr did not.

She goes back this Friday AM (today) to see her doc after taking antibiotics and soaking her foot in soda water yesterday at various times. Her foot, and body, is on its way to recovery.

I do NOT recommend this local hospital up here in M'town.

OH - and to you Miss Thang - I stopped in G.E. last week to check out hair sticks and was informed by Mrs. L that you had ran off with ALL of them to a Renn Faire. Silly girl!

She and I had a good talk. I really like her and Mr. J. As I told her, and you before, they have always been good to me and my kiddlings and I like them and I will at some point when I am down there again come back in. Just next time, I hope you have left some hair sticks for me to see!

Re: Yep, they suck
Guilty as charged... I actually ran off to the pagan festival with an entire order, I had no idea I was depriving you of hairsticks. I did make sure one was set aside special for you, though. I've got it at home with my gear right now because that was the only way to keep track of it while we were on the road. I will make sure there are hairsticks just for you next time you come in!

See one more example of why I think doctors are over payed for guessing. I would be demanding that someone pay one of the bills for the doctors messing up so bad.

Paying Bills
I told the Hospital that I did not believe I should be responsible for paying bills for sucky service. I know its apples and oranges but I said to her if you received bad service at a restaurant, would you want to pay for it? Would you return to that restaurant?

The answer to both was no.

The Patient Services Manager said that she could only suggest that I not get billed. If I do, I know who to contact at the hospital and I have the # for the physician's billing service.

I don't think that they should bill the insurance either. Even if her dad carries the coverage.

I'm sure this is not the end of it.

Her foot still hurts but now it is just tender and raw from the blister doing its thing. You know how it gets when blisters go away. Its like that on the bottom of her entire foot.
