I got to thinking about my last post. About education and toys. One of C's classmates mom's bragged to me that her son was getting the Mini Harley Davidson Scooter for Christmas. To the tune of $600. Another mom told me that this kid's family is into the dirt bikes, etc. so it was no surprise to her.

I am not in the least bit envious that this parent is going to waste her money (well, to her it is not a waste of money).

My children are getting educational toys. Things that will challenge their minds. Education to further their lives and assist them in their future.

Am I pushing my kids too hard by purchasing these things (or should I say family purchasing and giving as gifts)?

If you had sat in that parent / teacher conference and heard what I did about what KINDERGARTNER'S are expected to know and learn - you will realize that this ain't the school of your youth. This ain't the kindergarten YOU were in.

What awaits BBK in two years when its her turn to enter kindergarten?

Better to start her now with him than wait.

So, would I rather have the $600 to pay for a Mini Harley Scooter or would I rather spend the money on education?

Touch call. Not for me. But for some.

Yes, I realize that this post is simply my POV. I don't know that the mother is not working with her child to assist him in furthering his education.

I can't fault the parents who let their children play video games often either.

C likes to play computer games. His latest favorite to play is called 'I want to read!'

Maybe I'm crazy, but when I look at today's economy, today's job market, today's stock market - when I look at what we have as assets in this family totally - they are going to need everything they can.

Because if they are anything like their parents - they will want it techincal - they will want it so that they control it.

If they don't have the education - they will not have, or be able to do, either.

Holy KripsyKrack!
$600 for a minscooter?
$600 for ONE gift??

I have to go breathe into a paper bag.

Princess is getting the LP and some extra books. Then again, she doesn't have a game thingy.
She did ask for rollerskates, skateboard and a motorbike. I kiboshed the motorbike. imagine that.... :)

Re: Holy KripsyKrack!
C has been asking for a skateboard forever. I have so far stopped that. He has a bike. He has a scooter (you know, those metal ones that are so popular).

Then what happens? I find J-Bro's old skateboard a Papaw's. Sigh. C now has a skateboard.

We have the Fisher Price rollerskates for both of them. But C is learning how to skate on REAL skates now. Shakes head.

I know, who has the extra $600 to spend? Someone with too much money and nothing better to spend the money on.

Split the difference and give it to us!

We can make $300 go a long way!
